Lady in Rug is a robotic sculpture by Marlou Breuls’ studio House of Rubber: a female form emerging from hand-tufted carpet, built to breathe and move.
I led production on the piece, managing logistics, production schedules and the tufting process, and working alongside the robotics and 3D printing specialists brought in for its moving parts. I also planned and ran the exhibition setups, including rigging the 130kg sculpture to hang safely on the wall for its showing at Big Art, and built out the project’s branding and social media presence.
“Eleven square metres of tufted rug cloak the Lady who seems softly to breathe and move her arm to pet her voluminous skirts.”
